Bhutanese festivals, known as Tshechus, are vibrant celebrations of Buddhist heritage featuring masked dances, rituals, and community gatherings.

Paro Tshechu (March/April): One of the most popular festivals, held at Paro Dzong. Features sacred mask dances and the unfurling of a giant thongdrel (religious tapestry).

Thimphu Tshechu (September/October): Held in the capital city at Tashichho Dzong. Three days of colorful celebrations with locals dressed in their finest.

Punakha Drubchen (February/March): Commemorates Bhutan's 17th-century victory over Tibetan invaders with dramatic reenactments.

Jambay Lhakhang Drup (October/November): Famous for the fire ceremony and midnight naked dance, performed to promote fertility.

Tips for Festival Visits:

  • Book accommodation well in advance
  • Dress modestly and respectfully
  • Follow photography guidelines
  • Arrive early for the best views
